I missed my show at East of Eighth on Monday the 16th...sorry to all who came to see me and I was not there. I told them Friday before that I would not be back in time. I had one more day of peaceful tranquility in The Pines...so sue me! Friday morning started extremely early for me 6:00 am to catch the 7:48 train from Penn Station to Sayville ,New York....Then the mini van to the Ferry...the ferry to The Pines ,Fire Island. Arriving early for a beautiful day in the sun ...which quickly turned to rain. We did shopping in the local stores and had a great day. Betzy's friend Scott was along for the fun. That's hot! We had a wonderful day and evening in spite of Mother Nature. The next day, Saturday we had a show at the Ice Palace in Cherry Grove. The show was at 11:00pm or was it 8:00 or was it 9:00pm who knew! So they say now it is at 8:00pm so we began to get ready for the show around 5:00pm and of course the rain begins. You all know that hurricane Charlie was on the move and we were on an Island 3 miles out in the Atlantic ocean. So after spending what seemed like no time at all Betzy and I had transformed ourselves in the amazing beauties that we are and donned our umbrellas and prepared to face the hurricane straight on...So we left the house and headed to the dock to meet the water taxi that had decided to run every hour due to the storm. So here we are waiting, waiting and waiting some more along the docks with Scott...oh Scott and Craig. It is now twenty minutes till 8(showtime)or so we thought. The taxi arrives and we pile in this little boat in the rain in high drag. Across the Great South Bay we go...oh what fun. We arrive at Cherry Grove which by the way I swore 15 years ago I would never go there again.. Not only am I there but I am in full drag and ready to perform. Off the water taxi and onward to the ramp up to the wonderful Ice Palace where the manager could have cared less if we were there or not...Perhaps the storm coming in cleared the dance floor or something. There were six of us performing and 25 people to watch...and watch they did. At one point when I was preparing to sing LIVE I ask the 25 people there to clap there hands, dance ,sing along or something, but please don't just sit there and stare at me! So stare they did I was amazing singing like a bird. The show from our prospective went quite well. The DJ was extremely nice and loved the show. The bartenders were great! I said it again "I will never go back to Cherry Grove " unless I want pizza...then I will pay someone to go and get it! The rest of the weekend was great with Betzy and Scott. Betzy and I came back on Monday night and when I hit the bed I didn't wake until the next day. Can't wait to go back to The Pines. I would also like to say thank you to JACKIE the manager at the Ice Palace for being so accommodating and friendly. Work on it girlfriend. peace out Joie Starr weblogAugust 12 2004 Good news people ABBAlicious is now number 21 on the 100 top seller list at www.footlight.com Record store. They sold out and ordered more copies. Yeah.We are also now at number 10 on the top 40 chart at www.outmusic.net Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this possible. Peace Out Joie Starr weblogAugust 10th 2004 Well here we are again. I arrived home last night around 2:00 am that is and I was just to damn tired to write. Please forgive me. So here I am once more. Last night we did another show at East Of eighth in New York City. We had a good crowd, the people are great. I added more stand-up comedy to my act and it went over well. As long as they laugh in all the right places I know I have done my job. I write all my own material so one has to always be aware and looking for something new and fresh. The way the world is these days there is always something to write about. I also added a new song to my act last night and sang it for the first time. The response was good. (Total Eclipse of the heart) Also in the audience was SCANDELLE I hope I spelled the name right. What a sweet person. So happy to meet him as I had just been reading about her new CD in HX magazine. All the gender confusion oh what a world we live in ,isn't it great! Yolanda and I have been extended for the rest of August at East Of Eighth. However we have to perform at Splashbar on the 23rd so Robert Urban will be taking the show at East Of Eighth on the 23rd with special guest. We will return on the 30th for one more show. Hope you can make it either on the 16th or the 30th of August. Peace Out/Joie Starr weblogAugust 2,2004 It's 2:00 in the morning and I just got in from East of Eighth. The show tonight was in a word amazing! I opened for Yolanda and the Plastic Family. I can't say enough about Robert Urban. His guitar playing is incredible. What Robert can do with the guitar is like a good orgasm. Watching him play is a treat for anyone to experience. Then mixing in Yolanda's amazing voice is pure magic. I sang a lot of background vocals for them and it was a great show. I did SOS from the new CD ABBAlicious with a great response from the crowd. Many people said that was the best they have heard me sing that song. Tonight I unveiled my stand-up comedy for the first time and everyone loved it; they laughed in all the right places. I also met a lot of new and exciting people tonight. I would like to thank Greg the manager and Robert the bar tender both great people who took really good care of us. I was also asked to come back for the next two shows and graciously said yes. So check the calendar for the show dates and hope to see you there. I think it was the best show I have had in along time. Thank you to Yolanda for asking me and Robert for his gift of music. Peace Out Joie Starr weblogIn Feb. of this year I began to arrange my music and learn the songs. In March we recorded the CD in New York City at the Cutting Room recording studios in downtown Manhattan. I remember going up in the elevator and the door opened and right in my face were all of these gold and platinum records on the wall...how cool is that? Everything we have done has been documented on film and along with music videos will be released as the film ABBAlicious Exposed coming soon. In April of this year we went into the Aaron Cobbett studios and had a very long photo session that lasted way into the night. How tired we all were at the end. The CD was launched at an incredible party at Therapy a fabulously delicious club in New York City on June 22,2004.It was a sold out event. weblogJune 23,2004 Video shoot for Mamma Mia all day affair ending with 9 very tired drag queens. This was the third shoot so far for this video. weblogJune 27,2004 Gay Pride March New York City...what an amazing day and quite an amazing feeling to ride down fifth ave. in full glamour drag. Very empowering if you know what I mean. weblogJuly 27 next week I am performing as special guest on People will Talk with host Will Clark at View Bar New York City. Following what I think will be my final video work on the Mamma Mia video the day before. weblogIf you have something to asked me or wish for me to answer your e-Mails on my weblog just let know when you send your mail. No subjects are off limits unless they are sick and twisted. ok twisted might be okay. Love you guys and we shall talk soon. Joie Starr weblogJuly 26 ,2004 Well has I sit here trying to remove the glue from my nails from today's video shoot; I am thinking about tomorrows show at View Bar in New York City. Betzy with a Z because with an S would be her mother met me at my hair salon in New York City. We spent hours turning ourselves into the beauties that we are and then glued ourselves into a stupor putting on those damn fake nails. We arrived on set at 3:00 or so ...well maybe we were late...but who gives a damn. We were of course fabulous and shot all scenes in one take .NOT! Little did we know we were in for hours of unrelenting torture in front of the camera. Everything went according to plan...not ours but to plan. When we completed shooting for the Mamma Mia video we decided to go shopping at the wig store next door to the set. Betzy had eyed the wig store the moment we jumped from the cab on 14th street. All in all it was a good day and there is no one I would rather spend the day with then Betzy with a Z. Showtime tomorrow July 27th at View Bar has I mentioned earlier. I'll let you all know how that goes if you can't make it to the show. weblogJuly 27th--12:00am Just arrived home from the show at View Bar. It was a great show Yolanda, Connie Cat and myself turned it out. The place was packed even though it was raining like India during the monsoon. I would like to think everyone who came out for the show. I received many bouquets of flowers --thank you all for the flowers. Will Clark who hosts the show People Will Talk was charming and very cute. What a sweet guy. I would love to work with him again in the future. There were many giveaways during the night. However Will managed to give me a bottle of ID lube. Wasn't that cute. Those of you who know me well are probably saying what the hell is she going to do with that. All in all the night was fantastic and a good time was had by everyone in attendance. The next show is coming on Monday of next week so see here again. Joie Starr weblogHello everyone welcome to my website and my life...often times a bit crazy but always fun. Thank you for your never ending support. Most of you already know that this year has been extremely busy and lots of fun for me.
